FOR THE CITY WE LIVE IN. BANK KOMPANION

For the city we live in. Bank Kompanion.

Cleanliness in the city starts with simple things — a convenient bin near your home, a tidy courtyard, respect for your neighbors and shared spaces. For a city of over a million, these things matter even more.

At the initiative of Bank Kompanion and in partnership with the municipal enterprise “Tazalyk,” a new corporate social responsibility project has been launched: the first batch of waste containers has been donated to the city of Bishkek.

The distribution of bins is carried out in collaboration with the city hall — to places where they are truly needed.

This project is about respect — for the city we live in, and for those who need support.

“For us, being close means more than just financial assistance. Being helpful also means caring for the environment and finding simple solutions that make everyday life more dignified. We envision Bishkek as a city where comfort is accessible to everyone,” noted the Bank’s Sustainable Development Department.

This project is part of Bank Kompanion’s broader program focused on ecology, sustainability, and targeted aid in both the capital and the regions.

We believe: small actions create big change — especially when done together.

“Eco Charge”: Bank Kompanion among Top 3 Green Leaders in Bishkek

“Eco Charge”: Bank Kompanion among Top 3 Green Leaders in Bishkek

From April 15 to June 5, 2025, the city of Bishkek hosted the environmental campaign "Eco Charge", focused on collecting used batteries — one of the most hazardous types of household waste.
The campaign was initiated by "Tvoy     Zaryad" with the support of the Bishkek Mayor’s Office, Municipal Enterprise "Tazalyk", the Department of Education, and Bishkek Sanitary Landfill.

    Small actions — big responsibility
The team at Bank Kompanion actively joined the initiative, setting up internal collection points across all offices. For six weeks, employees brought in used batteries from home and encouraged colleagues, friends, and family to participate.
As a result, Bank Kompanion ranked among the top three organizations in Bishkek for the volume of batteries collected.

    Why does it matter?
A single battery can pollute up to 20 square meters of soil and contaminate underground water sources. Participating in campaigns like this is a way to care for the environment and foster a culture of sustainability in society.
For its significant social contribution, Bank Kompanion received an official Certificate of Appreciation from the organizers. Yet for our team, the greatest reward was being part of a real, meaningful cause.

    ESG in action
The “Eco Charge” campaign is part of Bank Kompanion’s broader Environmental ESG practices.
    Our goals include:
  •     reducing ecological footprint;
  •  promoting sustainable habits among staff;
  •    fostering partnerships with public and civic institutions.
    Sustainability is not a one-time event — it's a daily choice.
And we’re proud that more and more of our colleagues are making that choice every day.

Bank Kompanion’s Green Contribution to Childhood

Bank Kompanion’s Green Contribution to Childhood

The Karakol branch of Bank Kompanion has implemented a large-scale environmental and social initiative to green the areas surrounding preschools in the villages of Issyk-Kul Region. The project is aimed at improving children’s health, developing gardening skills, and strengthening ties with local communities.

Currants and Apricots as an Investment in the Future

As part of the initiative, kindergartens in the Jeti-Oguz, Tyup, and Ak-Suu districts received:

  • 400 currant bushes,

  • 384 fruit tree saplings.

These plantings became not only a beautiful addition to the playgrounds but also a future source of natural vitamins for children — in the form of fresh fruit, jam, and compote.

“We were happy to take part in the project. The children are excited to see how the trees grow and help take care of them. We believe that in just a few years, we’ll have our own eco-friendly fruit garden,” said a preschool representative in the village of Darkhan, Issyk-Kul Region.

A Partnership That Works

The project was implemented by the Karakol branch of Bank Kompanion with the support of local nurseries and municipal authorities. The branch also covered the logistics and transportation costs. Training on how to care for the plants was provided with the help of the bank’s business development specialists.

“It’s important that we didn’t just plant trees — we shared knowledge on how these plants can become a source of additional income,” said Bank Kompanion’s business trainer, Omurbek Chynybaev.

ESG in Action

This initiative reflects Bank Kompanion’s focus on the ESG approach: environmental protection, social responsibility, and community engagement.

“We believe that working with children and their environment is an investment in a healthier, more responsible future. This project shows how a bank can be part of ecological and social transformation at the local level,” noted the Karakol branch team.

About the Program

Bank Kompanion regularly carries out CSR projects throughout the country — from supporting sports schools to helping digitize healthcare facilities. The greening of kindergartens in Issyk-Kul Region is another step toward sustainable regional development.

Planting More Than Trees

When Trees Take Root, So Do Relationships

Interview with Mamet Yrysbayev, Director of the Sports School in Uzgen District, Osh Region — a participant in Bank Kompanion’s community support initiative.

How It All Began
Mr. Yrysbayev, how did you first hear about the project and what made you decide to take part?
— One of the representatives from Bank Kompanion told us about it. He explained that the bank supports grassroots initiatives that bring real value to local communities. In our case, the need had been building up for years — we badly needed landscaping around the school and proper sound equipment. We used to borrow gear from other institutions, which wasn’t sustainable. So when this opportunity came up, we didn’t hesitate.
What has this project meant for your school?
— It’s real, tangible support. We’d dreamed about this for a long time, and this time everything came together quickly and efficiently. That kind of responsiveness is truly motivating.

Greener Spaces, Brighter Spirits
Why was greening the school grounds so important to you?
— The grounds were bare and lifeless. In summer, it was dusty; in winter, bleak and cold. We wanted the children to be surrounded by something alive — to see trees, feel a sense of nature, of care.
What did you plant, and who was involved in the process?
— We planted 100 poplar saplings and 50 conifers. All school staff took part. Senior students joined in, too — they were incredibly enthusiastic. It became a moment of true unity.
Have you noticed any changes already?
— Absolutely. The whole atmosphere has shifted. The school looks more welcoming, livelier. Even people from the village started stopping by just to see what’s new. It’s made a visible difference to the school’s environment.
Who will take care of the trees going forward?
— Our school’s security guard, Ulukbek Orozov, has taken responsibility for that. He’s a dependable person. And honestly, we all care about these trees — the whole team will support him.

Sports That Bring People Together
How important was it for your school to receive new sound equipment?
— Very important. Without proper sound, there’s no celebration — especially for the kids. We host a lot of sporting events, and you can’t run them well without good audio equipment.
Any results you’ve seen already?
— Definitely! On June 1st — International Children’s Day — we organized a regional sports festival. Schools from all over the district came together. We held volleyball and football matches for students under 14. That very day, Bank Kompanion handed us brand-new sound equipment. Since then, we’ve already used it for three events. It works perfectly. We’re truly grateful.

When Business Stands With the People
What do you think about the fact that it was a bank that supported this initiative?
— It says a lot. Bank Kompanion is a respected, reliable organization. The fact that they chose to stand behind us — that means we’re not alone. And that matters.
Had you worked with the bank before?
— Personally, I use their services — I receive my pension and transfers through Bank Kompanion. I also save money with them. It’s convenient, and everything runs smoothly.
Which banking services are most relevant for you and your community?
— Transfers, small loans, and savings. Especially in rural areas, having access to those services makes people feel more secure.
In your opinion, why is it important for businesses to engage with local communities?
— Because public institutions like ours often operate with limited resources. Without partners, it’s difficult to make real progress. A bank has the power to support — and when it does, it makes a big difference.

A Personal Note
What does this project mean to you personally?
— It’s a vote of confidence in our team. It feels good when your ideas don’t just stay on paper but actually take root in real life.
How do you see this kind of initiative evolving in the future?
— I see great potential. If we keep going, we can achieve a lot — both in terms of sports development and environmental care.
And finally, what would you like to say to Bank Kompanion?
— A heartfelt thank you. I wish the Bank Kompanion continued growth, success, and more initiatives like this. You’re by our side — and that truly makes a difference.
