Stop for a Minute: 3 Questions That Can Help Protect Your Money

Fraudsters are constantly developing new ways to deceive people. They may pretend to be representatives of government agencies, banks, or even your relatives and friends.

Their main goal is to make people act quickly and prevent them from verifying information.

Before applying for an online loan, withdrawing a deposit, transferring money, or sharing your personal information, take a moment and ask yourself these three important questions.

1. Do I personally know the person or organization I am sending money to?

Make sure you clearly understand who will receive the funds and for what purpose.

If the request comes from an unfamiliar person, a phone call, or a messaging app, verify the information independently.

2. Why am I being asked to act urgently?

Fraudsters often create a false sense of urgency. They may claim that your money is at risk, your account will be blocked, a relative needs immediate help, or that funds must be transferred to a “safe account.”

Remember: important financial decisions should never be rushed.

3. Have I verified the information independently?

Do not rely solely on calls, messages, or links sent to you.

If the matter concerns your money, accounts, or loans, verify the information through the Bank’s official communication channels.

What should you pay special attention to?

Be particularly cautious if someone asks you to:

✔ take out an online or cash loan and transfer the money to another person;

✔ withdraw funds from a deposit or account and hand them over to a third party;

✔ transfer money to a so-called “safe,” “special,” or “reserve” account;

✔ share SMS verification codes, passwords, or bank card details;

✔ keep the situation secret from your relatives or Bank employees.

Important: The National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic and commercial banks never require customers to transfer money to “safe accounts” and never ask them to take out loans to protect their funds.

If in doubt, pause

Do not make financial decisions under pressure or in a hurry.

Take a moment, verify the information, and, if necessary, consult with a Bank Kompanion employee.

Sometimes one extra minute is enough to protect your savings and avoid financial losses.
